While we can’t control what happens to us, we CAN control how we respond.
As her mother’s early-onset Alzheimer’s diagnosis at age 57 progressed, Arika’s heart continued to break in pace with the number of challenges and obstacles her mother experienced in everyday life. One by one, the activities that brought the most joy, along with the abilities we typically take for granted, were stripped away. As her condition worsened and her fine motor skills deteriorated, maintaining her dignity and finding ways to ignite her spirit and make her happy were priorities for those who loved her the most.
Joy is always possible.
Tapping into Fancy Nancy’s love of fashion and “when you look good, you feel good” motto, Arika was determined to come up with a solution to help make it easier for her mom to wear her favorite jewelry again; something that had always served as a source of great joy and fun throughout her life. And so began the first of many design prototypes which would eventually evolve into the Magnetics Collection available today.
A battle long and courageously fought, eventually stealing Fancy Nancy’s life in August 2018 at age 67, Alzheimer's did not succeed in stealing her legacy. Magnetics Collection was not only inspired by Arika's mom, but has been launched in her memory.
